About

I've started this site because I believe in audio tweaks. I believe as a whole they can make a good system sound better. Having said that, I too had my fair share of disappointments. I find tweaking to be a continuous process of: "Two steps forward and one step back". Having to step back from time to time is part of the game and the learning process. You are bound to find tweaks that leave you scratching your head in wonder of what's all the fuss about. That's because some tweaks have a very subtle effect or one that is even inaudible. Keep in mind that the tweak itself is only part of the overall equation.

Factors that play an important role in your judgment of any tweak are:
Your own perception of what constitutes a change in sound, and is that change something that you perceive as being for the worse or better. Taste plays a strong role. Most of us will find it easy to agree upon auditioning two systems, one bad and one good, which sounds better. But most probably there would be more of a split in the judgment of what sounds better when that same good system is auditioned with or without a certain tweak in the loop.
The interaction between the tweak and the component it is applied to, and how that combination interacts with the whole system. Different audio components will react differently to the same tweak. Some may benefit more than others.
Finally, your objectivity or better yet; your subjectivity. How many times have you read about this or that "super" tweak in half a dozen places before trying it out yourself? The adorations you have been exposed to will most probably have an effect on your judgment. Or what about the case when a tweak has a visual impact on you. We "listen", like it or not, with our eyes as well (figuratively speaking naturally).

So your overall judgment will be governed by all the factors of the equation, which is quite comprehensive and complex. The good news is that we humans love to simplify so at the end of the day it will all boil down to either thumbs up or thumbs down. The great news is that with a little effort you're sure to find tweaks that will really work for you and your system.

There's no silver bullet amongst audio tweaks (although many do shine ever so nicely), but take note: Many are worth your consideration. We encourage you to keep an open mind and try things out. Allow for even the "super" tweaks to fail at times and the simplest to astonish. If it were easy and straightforward it wouldn't be fun. Audio, audio equipment and tweaks are fun.

Happy tweaking!
