Using Belden coax cable as speaker wire

Reference # Submitted by Submitter rating Cost

Source Brand
I read about this tweak in a Legacy speakers chat room found in AOL's Stereo Review 's newsgroup Belden Cable

Construction
Run 2 stretches of Belden wire appropriate lengths from amp to speaker parallel with each other. One length will become + & the other - . Carefully strip the solid core & stranded sections together to form one terminated end. Continue this procedure until all 8 ends are neatly twisted and terminated with banana or spade plugs if you wish.

Setup
Hook up as usual

Use
The concept is this. Belden cable is one of the better quality coax brands thus it was recommended but any brand can do. The mixture of solid & stranded wire together as one + or - connection is said to have all the qualities of even the most esoteric cable. The qualities to look for are its skin effect, impedance & inductance. There are specific criteria for each of these characteristics, and they are meet with this concoction.

Performance
Well I bought the wire in an electronics store in Baltimore & followed the instructions to make this exotic cable. I heard a difference between zip cord & this configured wire set up. In side by side comparison it sounded as good as the high priced stuff( Monster, Silver Sonic, etc.) and at a fraction of the cost.

Other
Some experimenters have reported a slightly different combining configuration with even better results, but I myself have not tried it. The preparation is as follows. As before lie two stretches of the wire parallel with each other to become 1 speaker wire. This time twist the solid core of wire A with the stranded segment of wire B together to complete the + aspect of the wire. Now twist the remaining two wires ( the other stranded section of wire A with the solid section of wire B to complete the - side of the wire. This is supposed to improve its RF rejection capabilities & therefore insulate it better, but I don't know It just ain't logical. If there are any engineers out there who can set the record straight E mail me at gregoryw@bcpl.net
