If you have an extra amp around, then use it in a bi-amped system. You must make a line level crossover filter out of inexpensive capacitors and resistors. Plans and component values are found in old speaker builder magazines and in Nelson Pass's web page...Fig. 2 of "Phase response in crossovers"

In a two way speaker system, after the line level crossover, dedicate one amp to each stereo channel. per each channel one side of an amp goes directly to tweater, other side goes directly to woofer.

be sure to have level controls on the crossover. adjust crossover frequency by changing capacitors, adjust levels between high and low with the level controls...you can tweak this to your hearts content.

This will transform your system--guaranteed. Speakers connected directly to the amp, not through a high level crossover sound much better.

Active
bi-amping can be tricky. If you read the manual for
Pass's crossover he says it could take YEARS to get it
right. His crossover is also $5000. You really better
know what your doing. |
